Australian Perimenopause and Menopause Guidelines now in development

05 August, 2026

The Australian Living Evidence Collaboration (ALEC) is thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with leading health and research organisations in the development of new Australian Perimenopause and Menopause Guidelines.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the guidelines will support healthcare professionals in their care of women experiencing perimenopause and menopause. ALEC is partnering with Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, the Australasian Menopause Society, Endocrine Society of Australia and the Australian Academy of Health & Medical Sciences to develop and disseminate the guidelines.

The Australian Perimenopause and Menopause Guidelines will establish a much needed home for comprehensive and consistent information, resulting in better diagnosis, treatment and health outcomes for women.

The guideline development process will bring together representatives from peak health organisations across Australia and convene discussion between health professionals, people with lived experience and researchers. ALEC is now inviting organisations whose members provide clinical care to women during perimenopause and menopause to join the Steering Committee. If your organisation would like to contribute to the development of the guidelines, please email [email protected]

The Australian Perimenopause and Menopause Guidelines will be developed in accordance with rigorous National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Standards and use the Living Evidence model, enabling the guidelines to be continually informed and updated as new, high quality research emerges. ALEC has been pivotal in establishing the Living Evidence model, which is now applied globally, demonstrating its feasibility with the National Clinical Evidence Taskforce COVID-19 Guidelines and more recently with the LEAPP Pregnancy and Postnatal Care Guidelines.

ALEC will be regularly convening clinical panels throughout the development process. We encourage health professionals to find out more and complete an Expression of Interest form to nominate themselves to be involved via our Google Form, submissions close August 31st 2026. An Expression of Interest process will begin soon for people with lived experience.

Prioritisation Surveys will also be circulated soon, open to health professionals, policymakers, researchers, people with lived experience and their carers. The survey will help us shape the Guidelines’ priorities and scope. Follow us on LinkedIn or Subscribe to our newsletter to ensure you don’t miss an update.
