Have your say: new Perimenopause and Menopause Guidelines

19 August, 2026
Thought bubbles and a question mark on a plain green background

The Australian Living Evidence Collaboration (ALEC) is partnering with leading health and research organisations to develop new Australian Perimenopause and Menopause Guidelines over the next two years.

An integral part of the process is asking those involved in the care of women experiencing perimenopause and menopause about the topics and questions they would like to see addressed in these guidelines. What is urgent? Which topics have the most uncertainty or conflicting advice?

We’re inviting health care professionals, researchers, policymakers and people with lived experience to complete a survey to help shape the guidelines and the order of clinical topics developed over the months ahead.

We are especially interested to find out areas that:

  • have the highest uncertainty in clinical practice,
  • have the most inconsistent information,
  • cause the most difficulty for clinicians,
  • are changing or have new evidence emerging,
  • are the most important for people with lived experience.

There are two separate surveys for health professionals/researchers/policymakers and people with lived experience, participants are welcome to complete both if applicable. We want to understand what are the most important things these guidelines should cover to make a real difference for people going through perimenopause and menopause and for those who care for them.

Currently, the scope of the guidelines includes adults experiencing perimenopause, early menopause (excluding premature ovarian insufficiency), natural menopause, and early post menopause.

The guidelines will address diagnosis, assessment and management of menopause and menopause-related symptoms and key long-term health considerations. We will also address the early postmenopausal period, including the management of persistent menopausal symptoms and menopause-related health considerations.

We encourage you to share the survey links broadly with your networks to ensure we gather information from a range of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences.

Participation is voluntary, anonymous, and very much appreciated. Tell us your thoughts today.
